I am wondering if you can change the license from GPL to a more permissive
license like ASL 2.0?

There were several discussions of ATS license issue in the past.

In general, any code generated from ATS source code belongs to the author
of the ATS source code, and
the header files (ATS2-include) needed to compile the generated code have
already been given a BSD-like
